This morning as I flipped through various websites, one headline grabbed my interest: “
How to Get Cover Girl Sexy Hair.” So I followed the link and read a six-part styling how-to for clients interested in having hair with a lot of body and shine plus “a tousled qual

ity that gives them a touch of between-the-sheets sultriness.” Hard for clients to resist clicking on that!
The instructions included using lots of product and multiple tools, including a blow-dryer, a curling iron and rollers. Maybe you agree with these instructions, or perhaps you have your own twist on creating long, voluminous hair. Either way, showing your client this article can open the door to so much discussion that you really want to have with her. Which products on your shelves can she purchase to get these results? Does she need a wide-barreled curling iron, or will her narrow barrel do the job? This conversation could even result in a perm or hair extensions service if the client lacks the volume or length no matter how much time she spends on styling.
I always encourage you to educate yourself and check out our
online hair classes, in this case our
online styling courses, but I also urge you to use the internet for educating clients. They’re looking at these sites anyway; if you apply the information to what only
you know about their particular hair, they’ll appreciate it and they’ll buy your products instead of the ones promoted in the articles.
